JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP
Junior Membership is available for girls of all abilities under the age of 18 on the 1st January who reside in the County, who were born in the County, or who are members of a Midlothian County member club. An annual subscription of £10.00 is payable and membership runs from January to December each year. The parents or guardians of all juniors (existing and new) must complete the Membership Form at the bottom of this page. We will then be in touch to progress your membership and request payment via a new invoicing process.
In addition to membership, MCLGA offers coaching and competitions as outlined below. The coaching sessions and competitions are fun and provide an opportunity to get into golf, make friends, consider joining a club, and enter competitions. No handicap is needed, but we can support anyone wishing to get one.
if you have any queries about Junior membership or the coaching and competitions we offer, please email Hilary at juniorcoaching@mclga.com or Moira at juniors@mclga.com.
PLAYING GOLF
We are lin the progress of organising dates for the girls to play the Templar Golf Course (FOC) with other girls during February, May, June, and November. The scores submitted will count towards our eclectic trophy competitions and will be run for over 12's and for 12 and under. Note: these dates will be dependent on finding helpers to run the 4 events during the year.
COMPETITIONS
The target is to run the following competitions during the year:
- March - Adult/Junior event - warm up to the season ahead.
- April - Spring Meeting maybe in conjunction with Stephen Gallacher Foundation events.
- August - Autumn Meeting maybe in conjunction with Stephen Gallacher Foundation events.
- September - Wee Braids.
- Hole and Hole knockout will run throughout the summer months.
COACHING
Coaching Option 1 - Braids Driving Range
MCLGA organises monthly coaching sessions guided by PGA Professional Coaches at the Braid Hills Driving Range on the first Sunday of every month (except July and August). The cost for the first 5 sessions is £95 and the dates for these are:
- 1st February 2026
- 1st March 2026
- 12th April 2026
- 3rd May 2026
- 7th June 2026
There will also be the option to play Wee Braids (FOC) after the coaching session. We hope to run the sessions again from September to January and the details and cost for this will be confirmed in due course.
Coaching Option 2 - Junior Development Pathway
Alternatively, girls with a handicap under 40 or with cards submitted towards their handicap, may be given the opportunity to develop their golf further by attending the Swanston Golf Academy for 3 x 2 hour sessions from March - June, at a cost of £135. The group sizes will be approximately 4-5 girls. The girls invited to Swanston training are expected to commit to all 3 sessions in order to obtain maximum benefit. If girls take up this option, this will replace their current Braids coaching.
These sessions will be taken by PGA Professional Coach Chloe Thackeray and cover all aspects of the game along with taking the practice session out onto the Templar course. It will also cover rules and golf etiquette. Depending on the success and feedback of this we will discuss running this again from August to October.
Coaching Option 3 - Performance Level
Girls who have attained an handicap of 5 or under, and who are playing in their club 5-a-sides and other key events and competitions, may be asked to join the County Squad and participate in Squad Coaching.
