Gibson Cup 2026
The Gibson Challenge Cup, presented in 1907 by Lord Provost The Right Hon. James P. Gibson, remains one of the oldest and most cherished trophies in Scottish women’s amateur golf. First played over Braids No. 1, now the Braid Hills, it continues to attract loyal support and showcases the enduring spirit of women’s club golf. Its centenary in 2007 welcomed over 120 competitors, including many past champions — a testament to the event’s legacy.
This year’s competition began at 8am on Saturday 26 September, with 28 couples setting out in pursuit of the coveted Gibson Cup and the honour of becoming the 2026 champions. While the original format was singles, today’s event features 18‑hole foursomes stroke play on Day 1, with the top eight pairs qualifying for match play. The leading four compete for the Gibson Cup, the next four for the 2nd Flight Trophy, and all remaining competitors return on Day 2 for a foursomes Stableford for the Salver. All play is off handicap, ensuring fairness and inclusivity throughout.
2026 Winners
This year’s event was made all the more special by the outstanding condition of the Braid Hills course. The fairways were beautifully presented, and the greens — tricky, true, and full of character — offered exactly the kind of challenge that makes the Braids such a beloved venue. The greenkeeping team deserve enormous thanks for producing a course of such quality; their work was noticed and appreciated by every competitor.
Sincere thanks also go to Mandy McBain, whose organisation, calm leadership, and commitment ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Her efforts, supported by Edinburgh Leisure, make the Gibson Challenge Cup the welcoming, well‑run, and highly enjoyable competition it is known to be.
