Junior Competitions

Our Junior members have lots of opportunities to play competitive golf, and we would encourage participation in all events, however we recommend National, Regional and County meetings take priority where practical.

Below is a list of competitions that MCLGA Junior members are eligible to enter for 2026. Details of MCLGA Order of Merit competitions are set out in the dedicated section of the website.

 

East of Scotland Girls Golfing Association (Regional Competitions)

MCLGA continues to encourage our junior members to play in the numerous events organised by the ESGGA over the year.

MCLGA Competitions (County Events)

Singles Knockout - this competition is for all Juniors who have a World Handicap Index (WHI). Please indicate that you would like to enter when completing your Junior Membership form on the Junior Membership & Coaching page

Junior members with a handicap are also eligible to enter MCLGA County competitions - please see the Competition Dates page for details.

We also run a number of competitons for juniors without a handicap and the details are included in the table below with dates for 2026.

Marshall Trophy 

The best net score of the day for a MCLGA junior in the Autumn Championship

Brown Trophy 

MCLGA Junior Champion of the Year will be the best scratch score of the day for a MCLGA junior in the Autumn Championship

Wee Braids Junior competition 

Scratch competition over 9 holes for girls attending Braids or Swanston coaching 

Wee Braids course, Sunday 6th September 2pm 

Livingstone Trophy 

Most improved player 

Largest reduction in handicap index over the season. Handicap changes from 1/3/26 to 3/10/26 inclusive will apply in the calculation of 2026 most improved player.  

Order of Merit – Junior player of the year 

Highest points score over each of 3 Category M events plus up to 3 Category E events.

Junior Opens

Some clubs within Midlothian host Junior Opens and we will list these below once available. Juniors require a WHI to enter and please check with the hosting club for more details.
