East Division Match Results 2007

County Team

The County team of eight players (plus two reserves) is chosen from members of the Association. The team competes each year in the East Divisional Championship. Matches are played against East Lothian, Fife, and Stirling & Clackmannan each match comprising three foursome and six singles games and played over a three-day period. The winning team from the East Division goes on to compete in the National County Finals held later in the year.

Training and Competition

Members of the County squad are offered a number of training sessions, relating to fitness, golf practice, psychology and rules. Members of the County are encouraged to enter National Competitions and Open meetings and to complete at all levels. The County organises 5-aside league matches throughout the season. There is a first and second division, with teams playing all other teams in their division to identify winners in each division. These matches provide match practice for members of the County squad and other low handicap players.

IT'S MIDLOTHIAN'S TITLE AFTER 70-YEAR WAIT
Many congratulations to Midlothian on winning the Scottish women's county team championship for the first time since 1935. They beat the Borders 6-3; then they thrashed defending champions Northern Counties 7 ½-1 ½; finishing with a 7-2 victory over Lanarkshire on the final day.
Although Claire Hargan (Mortonhall) lost her final singles match to Ruth Rankin (Lanark), she shared the honour of being the most successful player at the tournament with Midlothian team-mates, Kirsten Blackwood (Glencorse) and Belinda Murphy (Mortonhall). Each won five times with Belinda actually finished with a 100 per cent record as she did not play in the first-day singles.
Northern Counties, who had won the title for the past two years, finished on a high with a 7 ½ -1 ½ win over Borders to fill second place in the final standings. (Full Results and Pictures)
