Belinda fought back to square the match with a birdie 2 at the short 14th. After three successive halves, Claire had the chance to win the title at the 18th but she missed a 3ft birdie putt. At the first extra hole, Claire got home with two cracking shots into a slight breeze at this par-5, 471yd hole but she did not have to putt. Championship 2005 - Sunday May 1st at Ratho Park

Claire Hargan (Mortonhall) completed a hat trick and won the Midlothian Championship at Ratho Park Golf Course for the third year in succession when she beat clubmiate Jane Turner by 5/4 in the Final. Both made unforced errors during the final. Jane fluffed her chip at the first and allowed Claire to win with a par 4, Claire birdied the second to go 2 up but was brought back to one at the next, a short par 4, where Jane chipped and putted for a birdie. Jane had a chance to go square at the 4th but missed a 6ft putt for a birdie. She missed another short putt at the next to lose the hole. They halved the 6th in par 4s and Jane three-putted the seventh after the green had to be cleared of casual water to lose another and go three down. They halved the short 8th in regulation 3s and both bogeyed the 9th. Claire reached the turn in one over par 37 and was 3 up. They halved the 10th in par 4s, Jane made a bit of a mess of the par 5 11th after being close in two mighty blows, and allowed Claire to win it, and then three putted the short 12th to go 5 down. A half in 3s at the short par 3 13th, and then another half at the 14th gave Claire the Championship.

Championship 2003

Fiona de Vries & Claire Hargan

2003 Championship at Duddingston
Claire Hargan (Prestonfield), won the Midlothian County Championship for the first time over a very blustery Duddingston course when she beat Fiona de Vries (St Rule) by 3&1 in the final.
Starting with a birdie 4 at the first, where she was on in two at the 471 yard par 5, Claire was never down in a match of excellent golf played in a very friendly yet competitive spirit. Fiona took the short second with a single putt 3, and but lost the fourth where a skied drive meant that she had to play short of the water. Claire put it close at the short sixth to go two up, and she remained in this position through the turn, which she reached in 37 shots, to Fiona's 39 (par is 37).

Fiona won the short tenth to get one back but immediately gave it away again at the next. They shared the 265 yard twelfth in birdie 3's and Fiona won the 385 yard 13th Temple hole by holing a long putt. Both missed the green at the short 14th when they took three to get down.
Two down with three to play, Fiona put her second to six feet at the 290 yard 16th, but Claire followed her in even closer. Fiona missed her putt and Claire holed to be two up with two to play, and steady play by Claire down the par 5 17th gave her the title.
Claire, who was a member of Dunbartonshire and Argyll for many years, joined Midlothian at the turn of the year. She now lives and works in Edinburgh where she is training to be an actuary.

In the morning semi-finals. Claire Hargan beat Jane Williamson (Mortonhall) by 2 and 1, while Fiona de Vries beat Rita Dee (Kingsknowe) by 3 and 2 .
