MIDLOTHIAN COUNTY LADIES' GOLF ASSOCIATION

Midlothian Championship Qualifying Competition was played over two rounds at Newbattle Golf Club today on a gloriously sunny day .

The leading qualifier was Belinda Murphy (Mortonhall) 141 (70, 71) with Claire MacDonald (Gullane) second on 142 (71, 71). Claire Hargan was third on 145 (74, 71)

The Newbattle Golf Club women’s course record, first set by golf-writer Elspeth Burnside in 1977, was first equalled by Belinda Murphy with her morning round and, in the afternoon, Rachael Livingstone (Musselburgh Old) lowered the record to 69 – three under par. Rachael had had a 77 in the morning and would have had an aggregate of 146 Uunfortunately, she cannot take part in the match-play stages on Friday and Sunday because she has entered the Welsh women’s open stroke-play championship at Newport at the weekend. Rachael's second-round, in which she was six under par after 11 holes and shot seven birdies in all, will stand as a new course record.
