October
21 - Congratulations to Ravelston Ladies who were the winners in the National
Nines Competition. The Final was held in Jersey in September with all expenses
paid! The team were Barbara Duguid, Eleanor Davidson, Anne Goddard and Dorothy
Silver.
October 12th - Congratulations to Jane Turner (Glencorse),
who has won the the East of Scotland Girls' Order of Merit with a total of 49
points. The runner-up was Stephanie Crolla (Gullane Ladies') with 47 points. Amanda
Edwards (Liberton) was third on 39 points and Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) took
fourth spot on 35 points. The holder, Laura Aitken (Falkirk Tryst) was in fifth
position on 31 points.

Sunday
September 21st - Vikki Laing's career as a rookie professional took a big
step forwards in California on Saturday when she was one of 30 qualifiers for
the LPGA Tour Final Qualifying School at Daytona Beach, Florida in October. Vikki
shot rounds of 72, 75, 71 and 73 for a total of three-over-par 291 in the second
and last eliminating competition at Mission Hills Country Club at Rancho Mirage
and finished in a comfortable 13th equal place.

Thursday September 18th - Pamela Williamson (Baberton) retained
the Irish Senior Women's Open Championship at Seapoint Golf Club, County Louth
with rounds of 77 and 76 for an aggregate of 153 and won by a single shot from
Ireland's Valerie Hasset (Ennis) who had scores of 79 and 75. Well done Pamela
Sunday September 14th - Jane Turner (Glencorse) won the Brown Trophy
and Midlothian Junior Championship with a 78, Amanda Edwards (Liberton) was the
runner up. Sarah Devenish (Kingsknowe) won the Marshall Trophy for the best handicap

Tuesday
September 9th - Scottish Senior Women's Amateur Championship. Well played
Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park), our past Captain, who
has won the Scottish senior women's amateur championship at Ballater. Karen had
scores of 69 and 70 for an aggregate of three-under-par 139 and won by four shots
from Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) who had a 70 and 73 for 143. Ruth
Brown (Lothianburn) and Pamela Williamson (Baberton) finished in joint 6th place
on 153. Full details available on Kirkwood Golf News. We were delighted to hear
that Karen, Noreen and Pamela have been selected for the Team of six
who will represent Scotland in the Senior Home Internationals to be played at
Whittington Heath from October 1st to 3rd. Ruth Brown is reserve.
Sunday September 7th - Champion of Champions Final. Congratulations
to Karen Marshall (Baberton) winner of the Antonio Vase presented
to the Champion of Champions. Karen beat Kate Rorke (Kingsknowe) in the Final.
Both were playing in the Final of this competition for the first timeand the large
crowd of supporters enjoyed an exciting match. Karen went ahead and was three
up after five holes, and then Kate brought the game back to all square. Karen
won the match by 2 holes finishing with a superb 2 at the 233 yard 18th hole.

September 4th - MCLGA Girls Championship at Glencorse on September 14th -
draw. Please note that the Prize-giving for 2003 season will follow the competition.
Champion
of Champions Final on September 7th at 12 noon at the Royal Burgess Golf Club.
This will be contested by Karen Marshall (Baberton) and Kate Rorke (Kingsknowe).

Tuesday September 2nd - MCLGA Autumn
Meeting: Kirsten Blackwood (Glencorse) won the Lady Ford cup
for the best Scratch Score at the Midlothian Ladies' County Golf Association Autumn
Meeting at Glencorse today. Her score of 70 equalled the LGU Standard Scratch.
The McIntyre Trophy for the best net score was won by Linda Carter
with an excellent net 63. Jennifer Bryans (Harburn) won the second scratch with
73 (bih) from Fiona de Vries (St Rule). [LGC SS 70, CSS 70] Results

After a nail-biting finish the Midlothian Inter-Club League
Division One matches have been won by Baberton with 13 match points and 25 game
points. The runners up are Prestonfield with 12 match points and 24.5 game points.
Congratulations to Baberton on winning the Macfarlane Trophy. The Division
Two winners are Broomieknowe with 12 match points and 22.5 game points. The runners
up are Glencorse with 11 match points and 27.7 game points. Both teams are promoted
to Division One for season 2004. Congratulations to Broomieknowe on winning
the Thomson Trophy. Craigmillar Park and Liberton will move down to Division
Two for season 2004. As is usual practice, home and away ties will be re-drawn
in October 2003 for season 2004.

Saturday August 9th Strathtyrum Trophy Finals - Particular
congratulations to Karen Marshall (Baberton), who beat Fiona De
Vries (St Rule) by 4 and 3 in the final of the Strathtyrum Trophy, the five-day
women's open scratch match-play tournament run by the St Andrews Links Trust over
the Eden course. Well done both for playing so well over the whole period of the
competition
Thursday August 7th - Congratulations to the Scottish
Vets on retaining the Miller Stirling Trophy in an exciting finish to
the three-day Veteran Ladies Golf Association area team championship at Lilleshall
Hall Golf Club, Shropshire. The Scots were the hot favourites to win the title
after beating North and Midlands but they fell at the final hurdle, losing 5 1/2-3
1/2 to South. That meant Scotland and South both finished with two wins apiece
at the top of the table. The tie-breaker was a countback of games won and Scotland
prevailed by the slender margin of 1pt. Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh)
and Pamela Williamson (Baberton) were members of the team.
Congratulations
to Claire Hargan - who has played and scored well in the Munross Trophy, Mackie
Bowl and Riccarton Rosebowl (amongst other competitions). All form part of the
Scottish Ladies Order Merit. Claire was 4th in the 2002-2003 Order of Merit,
Commiserations also to Claire (Centenary Scottish women's championship runner-up)
who has had to withdraw from the Scotland team selected to play in the women's
home internationals at Cruden Bay from September 10 to 12. Claire, who was a member
of the Scotland squad in Frankfurt for the European women's team championships,
is not able to get more time off her training to be an actuary.
Tuesday
July 8th - MCLGA Summer Meeting:- Claire MacDonald (Gullane)
won the Jayne Dumayne Bowl for the best overall net score at the Summer Meeting
at Deer Park today. Her score of 77, less 6, net 71, was four below the CSS of
75. Claire also won the Corstorphine Salver with the best scratch score. The second
scratch was won by Pamela Williamson with 78 (bih) from Fiona de Vries (St Rule).

Wednesday July 2nd - Congratulations
to Noreen Fenton and Pamela Williamson on their selection for the
Scottish Vets Team for theVeteran Ladies Golf Association jamboree matches which
are played at Lilleshall Hall in Shropshire from August 5 to 7. We hope for a
repeat of last year's win.

to Vikki Laing on completion of a hat-trick of Welsh women's open
amateur stroke-play titles at Southerndown Golf Club. Vikki was tied with Becky
Brewerton with one round to go and won the day with a 76 for a final total of
213 to the Welsh player's closing 78 for 215. Well done Vikki.

Congratulations to all the members of the County Team on
their performance in the 2003 Inter-County Matches at Kirkcaldy this year. We
had two great wins against Stirling & Clackmannan and East Lothian. Unfortunately,
Fife proved two strong and won on the final day. There is always next year! [More

Saturday June 14th - Congratulations to Vikki
Laing on her selection for the GB & Ireland Vagliano Trophy Team to
play the Continent of Europe Team at Co. Louth, Ireland on July 25-16.
Tuesday
June 10th - A reminder to MCLGA members that they can enter for the Summer
Meeting which will be played on Tuesday July 8th 2003 at Deer Park Golf and Country
Course, Livingston (near M8 exit 3). Tee-off times are available from
8am-1 pm and 3-5.30pm. Entry Fee is £3.00. Entries close on June 24th.

AND LGU AGREE ON UNIFIED HANDICAPPING SYSTEM The Council of National Golf
Unions (CONGU) and the Ladies’ Golf Union (LGU) are pleased to announce that they
have agreed on a Unified Handicapping System to become effective on the 1st February

Monday May
26th - Congratulations to Claire Hargan on playing so well in
the Centenary Scottish Ladies Amateur Championship and in reaching the final.
We are delighted that she has been given a place in the Scotland squad of six
for the European women's amateur team championships in Frankfurt, Germany from
July 8-12. Claire has also been made Captain of the Scotland Team for Irish Open
Amateur Stroke Play Chamionship at Rathsallagh on July 19th and 20th.
Congratulations
also to Vikki Laing who has also been given a place in the Scotland
squad for the European women's amateur team championships in Frankfurt from July
8-12; and is in the Scotland teams for the British Women's Open Amateur Championship
at Lindrick from June 10-14; and the Scotland team for the Welsh Open Amateur
54-Hole Stroke-Play Champinship at Southerndown from June 27-29.

2003 - An inaugural match was played against Captain Keith Clark's team at
Mortonhall Golf Club. Midlothian County Ladies Squad players greatly appreciated
the opportunity to play Mortonhall Golf Course and were entertained with an excellent
meal after the game. No doubt, the Mortonhall Team will be keen to gain their

April 29th 2003 - The MCLGA
Championship Qualifying Competition for the first time was run as a separate competition
over 36 holes played at Duddingston Golf Course in blustery conditions. Claire
Hargan (Prestonfield) headed the qualifiers with 155 (78 77). Fiona de Vries (St
Rule) was second with 159 (80 79). The knock-out match play will also
be held at Duddingston on Friday May 2nd, with the semi-finals and final on Sunday
May 4th, along with knock-out match play for the B Championship. Championship

Ladies hosted the annual practice match against Midlothian County Ladies' Squad
in blustery, showery conditions. We are delighted to report a win for Midlothian.
Well played team. A Girls' Team was also invited to Lanark and played a stableford.

de Vries (St Rule) won the Cormack Salver for the best Scratch score at
the Spring Meeting at Broomieknowe today. Her score of 77 was matched by Wendy
Nicholson (Broomieknowe) and Fiona won on the inward half. The best net overall
score came from a junior, Amanda Forrest (Broomieknowe) who
had a net 67. Two other juniors, Katie Brown (Murrayfield) and Sarah Devenish
(Kingsknowe) also had good net scores and featured in the prizewinners Report
