East of Scotland girls Championship

Congratulations to Rachael Watton ( Mortonhall) on winning the championship. She beat Gabrielle MacDonald ( Craigielaw) in the final. The losing semifinalists were Nicki Taylor and Gillian Simpson. The matches were played at Craigmillar Park Golf Club.

Junior news from St Andrews

St Andrews Junior Ladies Open
Jane Turner reached the final and lost to Katy McNicoll at the 20th.
Gillian Simpson also qualified for the matchplay and lost in the first round.
Kirsty Simpson qualified for the handicap matchplay and lost in the first round.

Junior news

Scottish under 18 Championship at Alyth Golf Club
Five Midlothian girls qualified for the top 32 matchplay.
Rachael Watton(6), Gabrielle MacDonald(14), Kate McIntosh(19), Gillian Simpson(26) and Cara Easton(24).
Rachael and Gillian won their first round matches.
Kirsty Simpson won the under 14 handicap prize.
Carly Booth beat Kelsey McDonald in the final.

Under 21 Scottish Stroke play at Powfoot.
Kelsey McDonald won with a score of 211.
5th Rachael Livingstone (219)
8th Jane Turner(224)
9th Rachael Watton (225)
Cara, Kate, Gabrielle and Gillian also played.

East of Scotland girls championship at Craigmillar Park
Due to the mist, this event is unfinished.
Rachael Watton won the scratch with 74 and Gabrielle was second with 79.
Rachael, Gabrielle, Cara, Gillian and Kate all qualified for the matchplay.
The semi-final and the final will now be played on 31st August.
Please come along and support the girls. You will see some great golf.

Coaching at Braids Driving Range
The letters have been sent out by email. Please reply promptly. The new block starts on 7th September and is on the first Sunday of the month for 5 months till January.

Midlothian Championship at Ratho park on 14th September
All girl members of MCLGA who have handicaps can play in this competition. Please send in your entries.

Adult and girl Foursomes at Kilspindie Golf Club
There is an SLGA competition on 28th September. Entries through the SLGA website. The girls do not need to have handicaps. Please support this competition.

Girls golf at Ballumbie Castle




Congratulations to the East Girls team who won the Interdivision foursomes golf today.

They halved their matches with South and North on the Saturday and won against West on the Sunday.
Four midlothian girls were in the team - Cara Easton, Gabrielle MacDonald, Gillian Simpson and Rachael Watton.

New girls are welcome to join the Midlothian Juniors and come along to the lessons.

Cuthbertson Cup

The Cuthbertson Cup which was due to be played at Haddington Golf Club yesterday was postponed. The greens and course were covered with snow mid-morning when the girls were due to tee-off. An altnerative date will be found for the competition later in the year.

East Division Girls, Cuthbertson Cup Competition

Please come along to Haddington Golf Club on Sunday to support the Midlothian Girls' Team, who will be playing in the Cuthbertson Cup. The girls will play four singles matches in the morning and either singles or foursomes in the afternoon.
Tee off times are 10:00 and 15:00.

Winter coaching


The county squad and the junior squad have been attending short game and instinctive golf coaching over the winter months.
They have been helped by Jane Connachan at Musselburgh Old, Mark Berrie at the Braids Driving range and Scott Dixon at Dalmahoy. Thanks to all for your help.
At the last session, on Monday 31st March, we had a visit from Kevin Craggs. He has suggested some new ideas for us to work with for next winter.

Junior Girls' Spring Meeting

This was played at Liberton Golf Club on a very,very windy day, Tuesday 1st April.
There was some great golf played. 8 girls with handicaps played the 18 holes. 6 younger girls played 7 holes and had a putting competition. Well done to all who took part.
Thanks to all the parents and helpers and to Liberton Golf Club for the use of the course and the clubhouse.

Mclga girls' coaching at Braids Driving Range and 9 hole competitions

The dates for the next block of coaching are
4th May, 1st June, 6th July and 3rd August.
The cost for the 4 lessons is £25.
The information will be sent by email to Mclga junior members.

9 hole competitions at the Princes Course
The dates are 18th May,15th June, 20th July and 17th August. All at 10.30am.
The cost is £3.50 per round( payable on the day)

Please remember that you can join the Princes Course through Edinburgh Leisure for £50 and play as often as you like and play in their fortnightly Friday Competitions( starting on 13th April).

Junior Social night







On Monday 16th March, some of our girls enjoyed an evening at Dalmahoy Driving Range with Scott Dixon(the professsional). They had great fun learning how to play lots of different shots. Thanks to Karen Marshall and Claire Hargan who came along to help and to all the parents for bringing the girls to Dalmahoy.
