Dispatch Trophy

In May 1927, a team of Ladies competed in the Braid Hills (Edinburgh) tournament [Dispatch Trophy] The competition is decided by foursomes and the ladies were Mrs J.B. Watson, Scottish Ladies Champion 1920-21-22; Miss Mary Wood , Scottish Ladies Champion 1926; Miss Doris Park and Miss Edith Nimmo. The ladies were beaten in the first round. This was the first occasion a team of ladies competed on level terms in an open tournament. In the succeeding year a condition of this competition debarred women entrants.

Between the Wars

The committee that was formed after the first world war was very different from its predecessor.

Charlotte Stevenson (now Mrs J.B.Watson) won the Scottish for three years running in 1919, 20 and 21 and was County Captain in the early twenties. Miss Nicolson and Miss Wood, also figure in the minutes and were also Scottish Champions during the twenties. Our County team won the County Shield eight times out of nine in that decade.

Miss Nicolson, as well as being an excellent golfer, was well respected by Craigmillar Park, and became Club Captain in the twenties.

These, and subsequent pages will be developed over the next few years.
